DETAILS
DIMENTIONS ............. (In cm)
Frame: H. 27.3, W. 32.3, D. 2.3
Board: H. 20.1, W. 25.5, D. 0.3
Weight: 0.55 kg.
COLOURS .............. Earthy tones. Brown, yellow, beige, white, green. Light glossy finish.
SPECIAL ............... There is a stamp at rear, on the frame, with business name, adress, and phone numbers, of (quite possibly) the initial seller. It is possible that this is the artist's business, however it's not known.
MADE ............ Quite possibly in Australia and in Queensland (found in Vic.).
CONDITION .........
Painting Excellent. Frame very near Excellent.
OTHER ..............
Frame (proper) has gold coloured, raised molding design sub-framing element.
ESSAY ...............
This (perhaps) historic and well executed country scene depics a part of a house or cottage, right on a bank of a meandering river, with trees and shrubbery on the far (left) side, straight ahead, there are mountains in the not too far distance, which look to be partly snow-covered.
The artist uses several techniques, all of which make the painting look so 'alive' and vibrant. The use of thick paint is in some places dabbed-on and in others it is straight-lined. All of this makes the objects look so real. Observe the tree trunk on the left, the folage in the river and trees all along the banks.
The artist's use of this particular palette is very specific for all the natural elements to be captured in this moment and in this environment. The richness and warmth of the colours make such a stunning picture, and perhaps also rare.
UNKNOWN .............
1. Exactly where it was painted.
2. a. If it was painted from a real, live scene.
b. Or if the scene was a picture.
c. Or if it was only from imagination.
3. Type of wood used for moulding (to make frame).
4. Price that it was initially sold at.
5. About the painter, as an artist or their life eg. fame etc.
6. If this is a unique work, ie. this scene painted only once.
7. What style of painting it is, eg. realism etc.
8. Artist's name (on the bottom left) is hard to read.
(Please send message if the name and/or anything else about the artist is known.)
MATERIAL ..............
Paint surface : Masonite.
Frame : Wood (hardwood?).
Other : Metal (staples). Cotton string.
NOTE ............
The board's back-smudges just look to have been done by the artist's process.
Judging from the phone numbers (rear stamp), it indicates (guessing) that the stamp was likely to be from the (at most recent) 1980's or 1970's.
There is a professionally placed string on the rear, for hanging frame vertically, as well as the stamp being on the bottom side of this. There is also another 'amature' placed string attached horizonally. Which, of course, suggests that the frame was manufactured for a potrait-style (or verticle) (painted) canvas. Thus it seems this painting was placed (at some unknown time) in this frame, which was not specifically made for it.
