Beautiful Akai AA-5210 2x18W Amplifier Silver Woodgrain 75 Restd w WTY
$395
SHIPPING OFFERED
Akai just made just beautiful gear in the mid 70s, and this AA5210 emphasises the fact… conservatively rated at 18 watts per channel into 4Ω but weighing in at a very solid 7.2kg is the first clue that it’s a no-compromise design. A closer look reveals a beautiful brushed aluminium front panel, solid machined aluminium knobs with rubber inlays, and under the cover first rate components and beautiful construction. It sounds every bit as good as it looks and feels. Of course because available power is moderate we’d recommend using in a smaller environment, or driving sensitive speakers.
The unit will happily drive down to 4 ohm loads. The model originally came with those same “T” speaker plugs that Pioneer used, so we’ve replaced them with normal spring terminals. There is also the option of using euro style 2 pin din plugs.
Inputs start with a turntable, and add “tuner” and “aux”, both of which will accept any line level (aux) device. It also has a tape loop (of course also suitable for any aux device) and a front panel microphone input with a separate mixing control.
Like the majority of high quality amplifiers of the era it includes a preamp out / main amp in patch field for the insertion of other processing gear.
The volume control has an interesting feature of a “friction ring” rear section that allows you to pre set a “maximum” volume level that provides a “stop” on the normal volume knob that can be overridden with more pressure.
The expected bass and treble controls (high quality ALPs indented) are present, as well as a loudness compensation circuit. A stereo / mono switch is fitted, as is both a high cut and low cut filter.
A first rate machine that will provide many years of pleasure for its new owner.

- Sansui AU-2200 Amplifier 2 x 10W/15W dark silver 1975 Restrd w WTYA design departure from the black face that was present on most of Sansui’s amplifiers of the era the AU-2200 sports a good looking anodised face in a dark grey silver finish with silver knobs. It’s modestly powered (specced at 15 watts per channel into 8Ω at 1kHz, and 10 watts per channel into 8Ω from 40Hz through to 20kHz, or more into 4Ω), but you won’t be surprised by the fact it sounds much more powerful than that.
